Escape Fire The Fight To Rescue American Healthcare

What do you think of when someone mentions the American healthcare system?

We spend more than $300 billion annually on pharmaceutical drugs – nearly as much as the rest of the world combined. And yet we consistently wind up at the bottom of the list when it comes to health. Why? What can we do differently?

ESCAPE FIRE: The Fight to Rescue American Healthcare (Trailer) from Our Time Projects on Vimeo.

17 and a Nuclear Fusion Reactor

“I started out with a dream to make a star in a jar, and I ended up
… making things that I think can change the world.”

Taylor Wilson

What can a 17 year old do when he has a dream of making a star? He can literally change the world. In this TED video, you’ll find how one 17 year old nuclear physicist intends to revolutionize the way we produce energy, fight cancer, and combat terrorism using nuclear technology.

Violence and Silence – A Man’s Perspective

Why is it that violence is always a womens issue? We don’t say “John beat Mary”, we say “Mary is a battered woman.”

We consistently place the blame on the victim, rather than dealing with the issue as the root cause. In this TED video, discover what Jackson Katz, an anti-sexist activist and expert on violence, media and masculinities, has to say about this issue and more.

Its a refreshing look at an issue that is central to our problem here in America and around the world, yet so few are putting the focus where it belongs.

One of his greatest takeaways is

“What hurts us the most is not the words of our enemies but the silence of our friends.”

When anyone makes a racist/sexist comment and we’re silent, we’re in affect agreeing. Change the way we handle these situations and we’ll change the world.

Why do Americans have different views on Guns and Terrorism?

How does the rest of the world view what goes on daily in America? For many of us, its exactly what we would expect because we have the same opinions too.

Why would we shut down one major US city – completely shut it down so its like a ghost town – because of the potential threat from one person, when at the same time we abandon a bill that would strengthen our current background check law and get hundreds, if not thousands of guns out of the hands of people that shouldn’t have access to them, all in the name of second amendment rights?

For a look at how people view our recent attach outside of America, read Why Does America Lose Its Head Over Terror But Ignore Its Daily Gun Death? by Michael Cohen from The Observer/The Guardian.

US Health Care System – A Disease Management System

The US does not have a health care system; we have a disease-management system that is dependent on expensive drugs and invasive surgeries. It’s a system rooted in an ideal of maximized profits, opposed to helping people maintain or regain their health. And while “Obamacare” was an attempt to correct the problem, it did anything but. It hasn’t focused in on the true problem – the health of the American population.

Head over and read Its Time To Change American Disease Management Into A Health Fostering System by Dr Mercola.

Dr Mercola recently produced a documentary on disease management and what it means to us, airing on CNN in early March, watch the trailer:
